NRA Safety Classes

 
     
 

MPRA has many members who are NRA certified instructors and we give several courses during the year. Among them are: NRA Basic Pistol Course, NRA Basic Black Powder and NRA Home Firearm Safety Course.

What will you learn in an NRA basic course?
Using the NRA training method of Total Participant Involvement, basic courses provide hands on learning opportunities in the following areas:

 
     
  * safe firearm handling
* firearm parts and operation
* ammunition and its function
* shooting fundamentals and an opportunity to develop them on the range
* how to select, clean and store a firearm
* review of various activities available to help participants develop and improve their shooting skills
 
     
  Attractive certificates are awarded to participants who successfully complete each basic course.  
  (Other NRA Courses such as Rifle and Reloading are offered when requested.)

Taught by NRA Certified Instructors
All Courses are 10 hours with classes starting
Friday 6 PM to 9 PM and Saturday 9AM to 4 PM

 NRA BASIC PISTOL SAFETY COURSE
 

 

The NRA Basic Pistol Safety Course is MPRA's most popular course. Many people take it to fulfill the safety class that you are required to take when you apply for a pistol license in Orange County. NY State also allows anyone between the ages of 18 and 21 to shoot at a range without having a license and this is an excellent course to introduce anyone new to handgun shooting to the basic of shooting and most importantly the Safety aspects of handgun shooting.

Each student will be given a book and other material that you keep.
The courses goal is:

To provide beginning shooters with an introduction to the knowledge, skills,
and attitude necessary to own and use a pistol safely.

 The course covers:

  1. Introduction to Pistol Safety, Parts, and Operation
  2. Introduction to Ammunition and the Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting
  3. Introduction to Pistol Shooting
  4. Introduction to pistol Cleaning, Storage, and Training Opportunities

Class sizes vary but MPRA always has a sufficient number of instructors are always
available to give each student individual attention. Certificates are awarded to participants who successfully complete each basic course that you can copy and turn in to the Orange County Sheriff's Department a proof of the required "Safety Course Training."

 

 
     
 

NRA Basic Back Powder

 

NRA-NMLRA Basic Muzzleloading Rifle Shooting Course. Teaches rifle knowledge and safe handling. Black powder and loading the muzzleloading rifle. Shooting from the standing position. Shooting from the crossed stick position, and rifle games and activities   
     
     
 

 NRA Home Firearm Safety

 
     

The purpose of this course is to introduce the basic principles of firearm safety. It concentrates on gun handling and storage within the home.
Upon finishing this course, you should understand and be able to apply:
  • The basic elements of gun safety-knowledge, skill, and attitude
  • The fundamental rules of safe gun handling
  • How to identify and unload different types of firearms
  • The different types and uses of ammunition
  • How to clean and care for guns
  • Factors for evaluating gun storage options.

Understanding these points will enable the reader to enjoy the many benefits of
gun ownership and participation in shooting activities.

At the MPRA Course we will provide many types of firearms for you to examine
and to become familiar with. Rifles, shotguns and handguns will be shown and many
styles such as single shot, semi-automatic, bolt action, pump, tube feed and
black powder will be shown.

 

 
     
  Please Note: You must attend both the Friday night class and Saturday class in order and you must be ON TIME!!
